Is there such a thing as natural modesty?
Do we really feel shy when we are naked in public, or is it simply because we were raised to feel shy in situations as such?
If you do say that feeling of immodesty is innate, then how would you explain those who live in naturalist cultures and society? Those who actually prefer to walk around, their legs entwined with runners and breasts grazing the leaves. Ok, let's not get carried away.
People like Ruben from Intro to Philosophy might say that modesty is natural, and then of course give the longest, most irrelevant explanation to why he thinks so. Modesty is natural because it had to come from somewhere and that some people could be naturally modest.
So if we look at it from Ruben's point of view, some people can be naturally modest, thus ashamed at the thought of immodest behaviour. Meaning, that if they were to walk around naked they might just die. So, what about those who were not born with that innate sense of modesty? Do they just walk around freely, in all nudity? What if they were born into our culture and are forced to wear clothes? Would they feel weird? Wouldn't they much rather shrug it all off and walk around baring all for all to see?
SO here, listen to me, even though Mun Horng will tell you there's no right or wrong answer, I was right today.
There is no such thing as Natural Modesty, what a load of horsewhip. Modesty is taught by religion or race and encouraged by society. If ever there was natural modesty, why is half of the world dressed till their toes and others barely dressed at all? C'mon people we're not talking about DNA replication here. So if one has it, all should too.
Ruben, get real.
